Understanding the Spiral Journey of Leadership Presence

Leadership presence is not a fixed trait. It evolves as you deepen your self-awareness, build stronger relationships, and influence broader systems. The Spiral Journey model breaks this evolution into three zones:

ME-Zone: Inner Alignment

This zone focuses on building self-trust and authenticity. Leaders here are learning to speak from clarity and lead without needing to perform. It’s about cultivating confidence and aligning your actions with your values.

WE-Zone: Relational Influence

At this stage, leaders navigate complexity by holding space for dialogue and influencing others across teams or organizations. The focus is on trust, clear communication, and steady presence under pressure.

US-Zone: Cultural and Systemic Impact

Leaders in this zone shape culture and values at a systemic level. They reflect on how their actions ripple through the organization and society, leading with integrity in high-stakes environments.

How the Quiz Works

You’ll receive insights into your current presence zone — and a personalized next step to grow your leadership from the inside out.

The quiz consists of five questions. Each question offers three options that correspond to one of the three zones: ME, WE, or US. Choose the option that most often describes your approach or experience.

  1. How do you prepare for high-stakes leadership moments?

    1. I over-prepare and still second-guess myself

    2. I ground myself and focus on the energy I want to create

    3. I consider not just delivery but cultural impact and systemic ripple

  2. When you face resistance from others, your first instinct is to:

    1. Shrink back or try to prove yourself

    2. Stay steady and hold space for dialogue

    3. Zoom out and reflect on what the resistance signals systemically

  3. How do people experience your presence?

    1. Reliable but maybe not fully expressed

    2. Trustworthy and clear under pressure

    3. Culture-shaping, values-driven, deeply resonant

  4. What’s your leadership stretch right now?

    1. Finding my voice and building internal confidence

    2. Navigating complexity and influencing across the organization

    3. Leading with integrity in high-visibility, high-stakes environments

  5. When you leave a room, what do you hope people remember?

    • That I sounded capable

    • That they felt heard, respected, and led with clarity

    • That the conversation shifted something meaningful — in them or the system

Interpreting Your Results

After completing the quiz, tally your answers to see which zone you fall into most often. Each zone reflects a different stage of leadership presence with unique strengths and growth opportunities.

Mostly A’s → You’re in the ME-Zone: Inner Alignment

You are building self-trust and learning to lead from authenticity. Your focus is on finding your voice and speaking with clarity. At this stage, leadership is about 'Being' rather than performing.

Next step: Cultivate presence through intentionality. Develop practices that deepen your self-awareness, such as mindfulness or journaling. Seek feedback that helps you connect with your core values and build confidence in your unique leadership style.

Mostly B’s → You’re in the WE-Zone: Relational Influence

You’re deep in the work of leading others — not just through strategy, but through trust, tone, and energy. You hold space for others and navigate complex relationships with steadiness. Your presence is trustworthy and clear, especially under pressure. You influence across teams and foster dialogue.

Next step: Focus on attunement, credibility under pressure, and emotional resonance. Develop skills in conflict resolution and active listening. Practice leading conversations that bring diverse perspectives together. Strengthen your ability to hold space for others while maintaining your own clarity.

Mostly C’s → You’re in the US-Zone: Cultural & Systemic Impact

You’re shaping systems, culture, and legacies. You lead with integrity in high-visibility situations and consider the broader cultural and systemic effects of your actions. Your presence shapes values and drives meaningful change. You’re asking bigger questions: not just “What do I lead?” but “Who do I become through leadership?”

Next step: Explore embodiment, grace under fire, and identity as impact. Focus on strategic thinking and systemic leadership. Engage with initiatives that influence organizational culture. Mentor others to expand your impact and create lasting change.

Practical Tips to Grow Your Leadership Presence

No matter which zone you identify with, leadership presence grows through intentional practice. Here are some ways to deepen your presence in each zone:

For Inner Alignment (ME)

  • Practice daily reflection to connect with your values.

  • Use affirmations or visualization to build confidence before important moments.

  • Limit self-judgment and embrace vulnerability as a strength.

For Relational Influence (WE)

  • Cultivate empathy by actively listening without interrupting.

  • Encourage open dialogue and invite diverse viewpoints.

  • Manage your emotional responses to stay calm in tense situations.

For Cultural and Systemic Impact (US)

  • Study organizational dynamics and cultural patterns.

  • Lead initiatives that align with your values and promote systemic change.

  • Build networks across departments to foster collaboration.

Why Knowing Your Leadership Presence Zone Matters

Understanding your current leadership presence zone helps you focus your development where it matters most. It prevents frustration from trying to grow in areas that don’t fit your current stage and highlights strengths you can build on.

For example, a leader in the ME zone might struggle with influencing others because they haven’t yet built enough self-trust. Recognizing this allows them to prioritize inner work before taking on broader responsibilities.

Similarly, a leader in the US zone might benefit from mentoring others in the ME and WE zones, multiplying their impact and strengthening the overall leadership culture.

Leadership presence is a journey that unfolds over time. By identifying your zone and taking intentional next steps, you can grow your influence authentically and sustainably.
